finalist in the Miss Black World New York State Modeling and Beauty Pageant. JUANITA has performed her original music, as well as covers across the US and abroad and refers to her musical style as Sophisticated S-O-U-L, a fusion of R&B, Soul, and Jazz.
Incorporating her business acumen, creative talents, and passions, JUANITA also holds dual degrees in Human Services: Mental Health and Marketing and is the former co-founder of G&J Consulting Services. G&J Consulting Services was a successful creative services firm that provided copywriting, brand development and marketing consulting.
Always pushing herself and striving for excellence, JUANITA has received numerous awards for her community service and commitment to helping others.
With her significant contribution as a member of the African American Advisory Council for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), JUANITA was one of the main forces behind developing NAMI New Jersey's new initiative, AACT-NOW!, and she facilitated a support group for the program for nearly two years. AACT-NOW! was established to assist African American individuals and families suffering with mental illness with resources, advocacy, and education. As a spokesperson, JUANITA is featured in the nationally acclaimed, award-winning DVD documentary, Documenting Our Presence, which highlights the cultural views on mental illness.
JUANITA continues her mental health mission and has been instrumental in the fight against stigma surrounding mental illness and suicide. Currently, she is a very sought-after speaker and is active with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). She helped coordinate the 2008 Out of the Darkness Community Walk in New Jersey to raise money for new programs, education, and research for suicide prevention. The Out of the Darkness Community Walks are a nationwide initiative to increase awareness about depression/suicide and assist survivors of suicide loss.
JUANITA is featured in the February 2009 Cosmopolitan magazine article, Left Behind by a Loved One's Suicide. Left Behind by a Loved One's Suicide is a candid discussion about mental illness, suicide, prevention, and survival. JUANITA opens up and shares her own personal family tragedy.
Not only a talented artist, JUANITA is a respected humanitarian who leads with her head and her heart.
"Life will knock you down, but you have the power to get back up. Be a Survivor!"
